Field Betting Craps Strategy

Do you know what the Field bets at craps tables mean? We will remind you: Field bets win when 2, 3, 4, 9, 10, 11 or 12 rolls out. This very betting type is considered to be one of the least profitable and advantageous in the game. Firstly, all the numbers (with the exception of 2 and 12) pay even numbers. Secondly, probability to hit the Field bet is only 44.4%, which is lesser than the chance to hit a Non-field number – 55.6%.

That is why players tend to dislike and avoid Field bets. But if you plan to play craps professionally, you are able to win any craps bet. Besides, if treated properly, the Field bet can stand you in good stead and bring sizable profit.

Field Numbers Odds

Before starting to learn the system principles, let’s examine Filed odds. In fact Field bets are made on the least probable numbers:

2/12 – 2.77%
3/11 – 5.55%
4/10 – 8.33%
9 – 11.11%

Meanwhile, low probabilities don’t pay huge rewards as “a compensation”. The payouts are the following:

3/4/9/10 – 1:1
2 – 2:1
12 – 3:1

The only way to make profit of such unprofitable bets is to use a system.

Field Betting Principle

You shouldn’t have deep mathematical knowledge to comprehend that each consecutive dices’ roll reduces the chance to hit the Field number. At the same time the probability to win the Field bet increases with each consecutive Non-field number rolled.

The chances to continue rolling Non-field numbers decrease this way:

  • 2 consecutive rolls – 30.9%
  • 3 consecutive rolls – 17.18%
  • 4 consecutive rolls – 9.5%
  • 5 consecutive rolls – 5.3%

So, one is to remember that the true probability (44.4% for Field numbers and 55.6% for Non-field numbers) remains constant in any circumstances, while the running probability shifts as affected by unsteady conditions.

Field Betting in Action

Your aim is to choose a certain Field Number, start counting consecutive Non-field numbers and bet only after Non-field bets reach the needed quantity. Say, you are going to bet on three. The shooter rolls 6 – you count 1. The shooter rolls 5 – you count 2. The shooter rolls 8 – you count 3 and are free to bet now.

This online craps system itself can be used in two possible variants:

  • straight betting;
  • progression betting.

In the frame of the first one you make one bet after the above described counting. Then you start counting from the very beginning regardless of the result you get (win or lose).
Let’s see how it looks in practice. As soon as 3 consecutive Non-field numbers roll out, we make a $10 bet.

  • The first roll -> the shooter rolls 5 -> you count 1.
  • The second roll -> the shooter rolls 6 -> you count 2.
  • The third roll -> the shooter rolls 8 -> you count 3.
  • The fourth roll -> you bet $10 -> the shooter rolls 5 -> you count 1.
  • The fifth roll -> the shooter rolls 3 -> you count 0.
  • The sixth roll -> the shooter rolls 8 -> you count 1.
  • The seventh roll -> the shooter rolls 5 -> you count 2.
  • The eights roll -> the shooter rolls 7 -> you count 3.
  • The ninth roll -> you bet $10 -> the shooter rolls 9 -> you count 0 and win.

Using progression betting you are constantly increase your bet size (ex. $5 -> $10 -> $15 etc.). As soon as 4 consecutive Non-field numbers roll out, we make a bet starting from $5.

  • The first roll -> the shooter rolls 5 -> you count 1.
  • The second roll -> the shooter rolls 7 -> you count 2.
  • The third roll -> the shooter rolls 8 -> you count 3.
  • The fourth roll -> the shooter rolls 7 -> you count 4.
  • The fifth roll -> you bet $5 -> the shooter rolls 5 -> you count 5.
  • The sixth roll -> you bet $10 -> the shooter rolls 9 -> you count 0 and win.

Of course, the Progressive Field Betting system tends to be more dynamic if compared to the Straight Field Betting variant which is considered to be more cautious.

Field Betting Advantages:

  • easy to remember and use if you have no problems with counting at craps table;
  • can be used at any stakes;
  • 2 and 12 numbers provide more or less worthy payouts;
  • helps to make profit on generally unpopular bets.

Field Betting Disadvantages:

  • requires much patience so that many players will dive into counts only having no opportunity to do anything else;
  • can slow down the game play considerably;
  • progression variant of the system will do for experienced players only, otherwise can bring sizable losses.
